Sample Itinerary

Below you can find a sample itinerary for a college alternative break; all itineraries are crafted by Steinbruck Center staff in conjunction with group leaders.

Depending on time of availability, groups can also engage First Sunday Breakfast, ArtSmart Summer Camp, Soul Fiesta Partnership, and The Washington Interfaith Network. Based on goals of the group, groups can engage a variety of experiential learning opportunities and workshops.

Day One

Arrival to Steinbruck Center

Orientation  & Community Agreement

Walking Tour of Logan Circle Neighorhood

Overnight at Luther Place Night Shelter (2 people)

Day Two

Workshop: Poverty in DC

Workshop: Structural Racism

Service Opportunity: DC Central Kitchen

Overnight at Luther Place Night Shelter (2 people)

Day Three

Free day for site seeing and cultural events in Washington, DC

Day Four

Service Opportunity: Charlie’s Place

Workshop: Impact Hub – Alternative Economies

Justice Ministry: Community Craft Collective

Dinner with members of the Community Craft Collective

Overnight at Luther Place Night Shelter (2 people)

Day Five

Workshop: Causes of Homelessness

National Coalition for the Homeless Speaker’s Panel & Outreach Run

Day Six

Workshop: Methods of Social Change
